We GET to Live Here.

I started working out with a trainer a couple months ago and one of her reminders almost every day is, “Change your mindset. Change it from, you have to work out at 5:30 am to you get to work out.” There are people in the world who don’t get the opportunity to work out because of some type of issue and they would give anything to work out.
I started using this shift in mindset in everything I do. I get to go to work. I get to cook supper for my family. I get to go to that meeting and I even get to work out at 5:30 am. This shift in mindset has been a game changer. I think about life a little different every day. It also got me thinking about how I can help everyone in my community remember that we get to live here.
Let that sink in for a minute. We get to live here. Not we live here or we have to live here. We get the privilege of living in a community where not only can we get everything we need right here, but we have a community full of people who truly care about each other. We live in a place where when someone gets sick, the community rallies around that person. The community provides food, flowers, words of encouragement, and even money to help that person.
I also want to take a second to talk about the fact that we can get everything we need right here. Now, we might not be able to get everything we want, but we can get everything we need right here. A roof over our head, safe drinking water, food, fire, ambulance, and police protection, a church to go to on Sundays, all of our basic needs. Not every place in the world can say the same thing. We can also get quality clothes, shoes, gifts, entertainment, massages, good coffee, and hair colors. Not every town in South Dakota can say that.
I am constantly visiting with folks from other rural communities in South Dakota and they are so envious of all of the amenities we have in Hand County. We need to remember we get to live here; we get to shop here; we get to support each other here. If we forget that, all of those wonderful services and people will vanish and we won’t have the opportunity to live in a place where we everyone cares. We will live in another community that has no main street, no grocery store, no race track or drive inn theatre, no pharmacy, no hospital, or no school.
I am 100% convinced that we get to live in the most wonderful community in all of South Dakota. I will continue to tell people how much I love this community and continue to support the services, businesses, and people in it because I want my grandkids to get to live here.
