As many business owners know, it is becoming more difficult to find qualified workers for the many jobs in our area.  What you may not know, is that studies have shown that the vast majority of young people would like to spend their lives and build their careers in or near the area where they grew up.  In fact, 76% of high school students who attended Career Here! Event in 2019 stated they would like to work in our area if the opportunity exists.

Year three of this event will once again be centered around providing high school students the chance to come and talk with area businesses about their career opportunities and what type of education and skills it takes to work in a particular field.

Career here is sponsored by: BASEC, Grow Spink, On Hand Development in Miller, NESD AHEC, in partnership with the South Dakota’s post-secondary education institutions. The event is set for October 20th from 9am-4pm at the Redfield Armory.

We want students to gain a better understanding of what our area job and career opportunities are as well as be able to see what the work “looks” like on a day-to-day basis – what type of equipment may be involved and what a daily routine might look like.

We are asking area businesses to join us at the event and bring with them anything that they believe might give students a better idea about jobs in our area.  The event is FREE for all businesses with sponsorships available.

Would you like to talk to area students about working and living right here in Miller? Call Kecia at 853-3098 and join her and 350 students from the area for the fun-filled event.
