Talk is Turning into Progress

On Hand Development Corporation has been talking about a new hotel development for years. That talk is now turning into progress. In 2019, we hired a hospitality consulting firm to conduct a hotel study. To help cover costs for that study, we utilized an economic development grant from our city’s power supplier, Heartland Consumers Power District.

grant-from-heartlandWe couldn’t move forward with finding investors and supporters without first completing this study. According to the study, “given the size of the regional economic activity and the age of supply in the competitive market in surrounding areas, it seems apparent that there is a demand of tourism and an opportunity for new supply.”

On Hand is interested in finding a group of investors to build a hotel adjacent to the Miller Community Center. Owned by On Hand, the Community Center is a popular venue for weddings, business events, auctions, youth activities and more. In 2019, it hosted over 300 events. Ten of those events had over 350 people in attendance.

Prior to the study, support for a new hotel was significant. Now, the hopeful results reinforce that base. The city has expressed its support as well as other organizations, residents and business owners in the community and throughout Hand County.

A new hotel would have a positive impact beyond our city limits. There isn’t anything relatively new within a 45-mile radius, so we have the potential to attract many more people to our area. It would be an asset to the entire region.

On Hand is looking forward to moving on to the next phase. This includes finalizing the study as well as forming a team to spearhead the project and begin pursuing investors.

Economic development projects like this one don’t happen overnight. We need to take time in order to be thorough, but it’s still exciting to be moving forward. If you want to be on team to help spearhead this project, contact me at 853-3098. Let’s turn this talk into progress, together!
