On Hand Development and the Miller School are looking for businesses who are interested in participating in a very exciting state wide event. The South Dakota Week of Work is April 20-24 and Miller is looking to host locations for 26 10th graders. 

The South Dakota Week of Work will introduce 10th graders to career opportunities in their own communities through job shadows, industry tours, and other business-classroom connections. It’s a week of exploration, with the aim of guiding students, engaging local businesses, and introducing employers to their future workforce. Think of it as a long-term investment in South Dakota’s future.

South Dakota Week of WorkThe purpose of this event is to connect students with area businesses to provide students opportunities to explore potential jobs in South Dakota and provide employers opportunities to engage with youth and develop connections with the state’s future workforce.

What should your business do to participate?

  • Register via the South Dakota Week of Work matching system (https://weekofwork.sd.gov/)
  • Choose the activity your business will offer: Job shadow Business tour for students Guest speaker for classroom
  • Accept matching requests from Week of Work matching system
  • Confirm commitments
  • Have fun meeting students during the South Dakota Week of Work, April 20-24, 2020!

What makes Week of Work activities valuable? • Exposure to future workforce for your place of business • Opportunity for self-development, for the student(s) and your staff • Networking opportunity with potential future employees • Ability to share your experience with potential customers • Develop mentoring skills and impact youth • Increase employee morale as result of doing something positive for the local community.
