COVID-19COVID-19 Assistance Programs

As I sit at my kitchen counter attending countless COVID-19 webinars, the number one topic Economic Development Professionals are talking about is how to help businesses during this strange time.  Below is a small list of resources available at this time.

  • H.R.6201 – Families First Coronavirus Response Act has been signed into law as of March 18th. This bill responds to the coronavirus outbreak by providing paid sick leave and free coronavirus testing, expanding food assistance and unemployment benefits, and requiring employers to provide additional protections for health care workers.
  • The IRS has announced that the federal income tax filing due date is automatically extended to July 15th, 2020. No additional forms are needed.
  • SD Department of Labor has assistance available for hourly employees who cannot work.
  • SD Department of Labor is accepting unemployment claims from school employees affected by COVID-19 closures.
  • SD Department of Labor is inviting applicants to file online at RAClaims.sd.gov.
  • SD Department of Labor is inviting employers with unemployment insurance questions about layoffs/closures to email DLRRADivision@state.sd.us . Employers filing unemployment insurance are encouraged to sign up for the State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) This process will help save time with such a large number of claims being filed.
  • The City of Miller allocated $150,000 for emergency funds during this pandemic. It also has approved those individuals who have less hours, get laid off or fired during this crisis, an application process to apply for payment plan on utilities. This will also be available for businesses. Please call the city for requirements.

Small Business Aid:

  • SBA has approved the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Fund Program access for South Dakota.
  • The Small Business Administration has compiled information about navigating COVID-19 as a business, including SBA loan information.
  • The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has compiled a helpful list of resources for understanding and navigating COVID-19 as a business.
